Entrepreneurs – Destroy Procrastination Forever…
Congratulations to all of you that took advantage of the Special Gift. I’m so excited for you. And what’s more exciting is that we will be working together to get you to your next level.
If you’re one of the people who didn’t take advantage of the special gift, it’s too late. The special gift has been removed. Sorry!
But I did warn you about this so don’t complain to me that it’s no longer available.
If you didn’t participate and get your special gift it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you or anything of the sort.
However there could be something underlying that’s stopping your from achieving the success you want, which brings me to answering the next Biggest Entrepreneur Challenge.
Eliminate Procrastination Forever
As Entrepreneurs we are faced with having to make our own decisions and to take action on those decisions. Many times there are opportunities staring us in the face that we know we should take advantage of, but don’t.
This is not the only challenge because this also transfers into every area of our lives. Let me ask you something. Do you have a hard time making up your mind when you order you food in a restaurant?
Most people take a long time to make up their minds. This is a form of procrastination and indecision because what if you make the wrong choice?
You know what I’m talking about.
As Entrepreneurs there are many things we must do especially if you’re just starting out and don’t have a team to help you. You have to do everything your self and sometimes there are things we know we should do but just don’t feel like doing.
This inaction to both taking advantage of opportunities and doing the things you must do that you don’t like to do is a form of procrastination.
Since you don’t have a boss to tell you what to do, it becomes easy to put off the things you know you must do in order to build your business.
Wouldn’t it be easier sometimes if you just had someone tell you what to do and when to do it?
Of course it would. But the challenge is when you’re an Entrepreneur you don’t have that luxury. You are your own boss.
So now you have a choice. You can either fire yourself for not doing what you’re supposed to do or you can get rid of the procrastination.
You can’t afford to procrastinate as an Entrepreneur because your business is going to suffer.
You must be proactive and do things that don’t feel good and maybe jump into unknown territory that feels scary or uncomfortable. That’s what Successful Entrepreneurs do. It doesn’t always feel good or comfortable. But that’s why Success Entrepreneurs get paid the big bucks and so can you.
The key is to forget about eliminating procrastination completely because that is an overwhelming task, especially if you’re a big procrastinator.
Instead, it’s better to cut down the amount of time you waste procrastinating.
When you consistently work on cutting the amount of time down each and every day, eventually you eliminate the majority of procrastination.
But this is where you must be gentle on yourself. You’re human and by definition, you’re going to procrastinate. Heck even I procrastinate. The key though is how much and how long do you procrastinate?
So how do you keep yourself form procrastinating?
Procrastination Destroyer
Here is a simple technique that will help you tremendously and it’s easy to apply.
First you’re going to require some supplies. Get a clean sheet of paper, a paperclip, and two one dollar bills.
Second, if there is something you have to get done but are uncomfortable doing it or just don’t feel like doing it, pick that activity now. Make sure this task is small enough that you can do it in one day or a maximum of one week.
Third, on your sheet of paper you’re going to create a contract with yourself. This contract will be used to make sure you get the job done.
On your paper write the following:
SUCCESS CONTRACT
I _____________ (fill in your name) am committed to completing _____________ (fill in the task) by the end of the day ____________ (fill in the date). If I do not complete this task, I am committed to shredding two one dollar bills.
Signed: ___________________________ (Your Signature)
Date: ______________________________ (Today’s date)
Forth, take the two one dollar bills and paperclip it to your Success Contract. Then place the Success Contract where you can see it often.
Last, when you complete the task on time, celebrate like crazy. Jump up and down, pat yourself on the back, and yell out loud as loud as you can, “I’m a Winner.” This will give your unconscious mind positive reinforcement for a job well done.
Conversely, if you don’t complete the task on time you must fulfill your contract. Take the two one dollar bills and put it into a shredder. I love the cross shredder personally because it’s impossible to reassemble the money. If you don’t have a shredder, then cut it up in tiny pieces.
I know this is going to cause you some pain but it will be well worth it long term. Look at it as a cheap way to get over procrastination.
By the way, have you ever calculated what procrastination is costing you now?
I bet it’s a lot more than two dollars.
You must complete your contract whether you like it or not. If you have a hard time shredding the two dollars, then send it to me with a postage paid reply envelope and I’ll shred it for you and send back the remains.
If you choose not to fulfill your contract, then you have a bigger problem and that’s called Integrity. I’m not going to deal with that here but you get the idea.
I guarantee that if you have to shred money a couple of times your mind will be a lot more willing to help you achieve your goals and soon your procrastination will be minimized or eliminated.
Now it’s your turn to Take Action. Go ahead and implement what I suggested and Write a Comment Below and let me know what you learned and how it worked for you. When you Write a Comment you’ll be participating at 100% and you’ll engrain the learning at the cellular level.
If you’re procrastinating about Writing Your Comment, then use that as your goal for your first Success Contract. When you take even a small action like Writing Your Comment Now you’re training your unconscious mind to produce more success for you.
I look forward to reading your comments and hearing about how you destroyed procrastination.
To Your Success,

Andy Fuehl

What a simple method for addresing procrastination. Like those who have already replied, I suffer badly from procrastination. I don’t know why I continue to do it, as I am aware I suffer from it and of the problems it causes. It may be fear, or it may be a lack of integrity and belief, I am not sure, however I can see just how it has held me back professionally, financially and, recently, personally too as it became a major issue that has impacted my life with my partner. The idea of shredding a £5 note may seem strange and a little ridiculous at first, but I am committed now to drafting a contract and using this as the start toward controling and minimalising my procrastination. Thanks Andy

My level of procrastination has not only ruined my business, but other areas of my life. When I read your suggestion of shredding a couple of $1 bills, it didn’t phase me. Who cares about a couple of bucks?? But then, I read your next comment…that if this doesn’t “cure” your procrastination problem…it likely goes deeper…to the level of your INTEGRITY. That statement hit me as a major revelation about my character. You are so simply right. I have allowed my integrity to vanish and can’t admit it. How very stupid of me. I am truly embarrassed and disapponted in myself because I was once very successful and prided myself first and foremost in my integrity. Where did it go? Well,I know where I must go from here. I have to earn back my integrity..starting today. Thank you for your insight.

The link to the leave a comment section kept breaking and the fact that it seemed to be “beyond my control” pushed a button in me and I found myself immediately getting into action to “not be beat” by the system, so I haven’t needed to cut up any money so far!

I have often found that after I have done something that I procrastinated a lot on, that it wasn’t the big thing that I had made it out in my mind to be.

I have just received the email..and I am very excited about getting started on my list of things..I have always been a Procrastinator which I am not very proud of at all. Thanks, for bringing this to my attention sometimes it takes someone else to see the areas at which you are lacking. I will be starting a new venture with the Destroy Prostastinationion forever!!!! It is kind of hard to shred $2.00 when times are exremely hard so, I have to be diligent and put the effort into it.
Thanks, Sharon Moore

no more procrastinating for me!!
I’m so frugal, I’ll do anything not to have to tear up money. Even $2.
I have to enter the receipts in the household finances spreadsheet.
It has to be done regularly and I always put it off.
I’m making a contract EVERY month to do this.
Thanks, Liz

Brilliant idea. Unfortunately we dont have £1.00 notes in the Uk anymore so I shall have to use £5!!! The good news is that I do not procrastinate as much as before so I’m learning and growing.

Hi Andy!
great stuff! I had bought your program from Nightingale Conant last spring and started it and then got busy elsewhere.
I like this coaching bit you are doing and will make my contract as soon as I hit the submit button.
Here in Canada the lowest $ bill we have is the $5!!! There is a lot at stake here!

My task is to revamp my website and have a functioning site up and running by August 8/2008 (been putting this off for WAY too long!)

I accept the challenge! Of course I have been procrastinating!
My first target tonight is to re-paint both sides of the ground floor doors at my house. This is actually an investment in my wife’s confidence in me. I don’t want to let her down any more.
Secondly, there are two people who have agreed to do some work for my business, but the results have not appeared yet. I will speak to them within 24 hours and set them a SMART goal each. The result will really help to move things forwards.
Thanks for chivvying us along Andy!
