Entrepreneurs – What Can You Learn From CATCHING PIGS?

My good friend Steve sent me an interesting story that will truly help you understand what is going on with our government and what’s happening in America today.

Pay attention Entrepreneurs, there is a lesson here for you…

In fact, this is a good lesson for our fellow Entrepreneurs abroad as well.

I don’t know who authored this, but the story is truly thought provoking and I would love to give him credit for this because he deserves it!

Catching Pigs

(Author Unknown)

There was a chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the Prof noticed one young man, an exchange student, who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist regime.

In the midst of his story, he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked:

“Do you know how to catch wild pigs?”

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said that it was no joke.

“You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming.

When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side.

The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again.

You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.

Soon they go back to eating the free corn . They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.”

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening in America The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tax cuts, tax exemptions, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms, just a little at a time.

One should always remember two truths:

1) There is no such thing as a free lunch.

2) And you can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it
yourself
.

If you see that all of this wonderful government ‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in America, you might want to send this on to your friends.

If you think the free ride is essential to your way of life, then you will probably ignore this and continue eating like nothing happened.

But God help you when the gate slams shut!

And it will…

Andy,
Each form of government has it’s pros and cons, but Democracy has a few benefits that few people have the presence of mind to appreciate every day.
We live in a place where we determine our own destiny, doing work that we love, helping people in our own little way.
My brother is a cop, and was at 1 Police Plaza in NY when 9/11 happened. He watched the second plane impact the twin towers, and watched them as they fell.
The bible warns us of a false prophet coming forth as a wolf in sheep’s clothes, and it’s the theoretical start of Armageddon.
It’s amazing to me the things that Obama promised to the people - if only 20% of what he promised comes true, we’re going to be bankrupt in short order.
And, with Pelosi in Congress, we’re in some serious trouble.
Correct me if I am off base here, but didn’t socialism lead to Marxism, which led to communism, which led to the demise of the Soviet Union?
And, hasn’t Democracy been functional much longer?
Food for thought……

I dont think it could have been better said! It is so obvious. Why are there so many people not seeing the big picture!Wake up America, and quit looking for a handout!

Catching wild pigs is a story that has been around for awhile but has never been more topical. We started down this road when an earlier president promised every person would get something from the government in the 1930’s. People bought into it during the hardtimes and never got weaned from the public teat after that. Lavish promises seem to have swayed the new majority and the hard working are going to be stuck with the bill again.

If you really do read these responses and not just gather e-mail addresses, please answer this message and I will tell you what I am doing to turn things back to when this country was more self-reliant and roundly respected.

This is nothing new and is inherent everywhere in society. First the prices are put up, then back down, everyone’s happy ? Taking responsibilty for yourSelf and your Life has always been the single most important thing for anyone to do - anything else and we get what we allow others to give us. Why speculate on how things might be if one or the other politician or party gets in power (always convenient to blame others), or try to return to the past and the way things were? If everyone acts from the heart, with respect for themselves and others then there will be no more fences.

No need to fear obama or pelosi. The present administration(bush) has already bankrupted the nation. The new guy (obama) is the old guy (bush) repackaged so
you have to expect more of the same. Let’s control what we can which is us. Let’s
get to work. sucess to you all. Andy the book has ben most helpful, reading it again and applying it. FEAR NOT.
